Nadine West Review

Nadine West is a new company that sends you an outfit every month for free! There is absolutely no obligation to buy and no shipping costs. If you like what they send, you keep it and pay for it. Simple as that.

My first outfit was for May. (This post is a little late. Sorry!) I received three items. A top, necklace w/matching earrings, and a set of bracelets.

Item #1 - Ocean Blue Drape Front Top (M) $14.89 (Kept)

I love this top. I have to wear a camisole under it because when I bend forward it shows my entire torso, but the quality, color and fit are great! I am very pleased with this for the price.

Item #2 - Trio Geo Pendant on Bugle
bead necklace w/matching dangle earrings
$29.99 (Returned)
I am not a big fan of matching necklaces and earrings. This also just was too chunky for me.

Item #3 - Set of Multi Diamond Bracelets $9.99 (Returned)
I like bracelets that are softer and tighter fitting. My wrists are slender so its hard for me to wear bracelets like this.

Even though I didn't end up keeping the jewelry, the shirt more than made up for it. I am hoping next month's bag will be better jewelry-wise. And there is nothing to lose. It is absolutely free if you don't end up keeping anything! Overall, I really loved my first Nadine West experience. I definitely recommend signing up for them!

Choose My Hair Color!

This summer I have decided to do a crazy, bright color in my hair and I want you to choose which color I use! I will keep the poll open for a week and then I will dye my hair whatever color you all choose. The last time I did a crazy color in my hair was around 20 years ago, so this should be a lot of fun.

In My Arms

Today I am sharing a song that I consider my Mom Anthem. Plumb is a group that I personally identify with on so many levels. The lead singer/songwriter is a mom that has battled a lot of the same emotional demons as I have, so what she writes speaks to me on so many levels.

In My Arms by Plumb (Bronleewe & Bose Radio Edit).
from Plumb's 2007 album, Blink

Your baby blues
So full of wonder
Your curly cues
Your contagious smile
And as i watch
You start to grow up
All I can do
is hold you tight

Knowing clouds will rage in
Storms will race in
But you will be safe in my arms
Rains will pour down
Waves will crash around
But you will be safe in my arms

Story books are full of fairy tales
Of kings and queens and the bluest skies
My heart is torn just in knowing
You'll someday see the truth from lies

When the clouds will rage in
Storms will race in
But you will be safe in my arms
Rains will pour down
Waves will crash around
But you will be safe in my arms

Castles – they might crumble
Dreams may not come true
But you are never all alone
'Cause I will always,
Always love you
Hey I,
Hey I,

When the clouds will rage in
Storms will race in
But you will be safe in my arms
Rains will pour down
Waves will crash around
But you will be safe in my arms, in my arms

Dig (Music Monday 6/16)

Monday's post is a little late! It took me a little while to get inspired by a song. Sometimes I just don't have anything in mind and I don't want to write forced blog posts. I want this to be a natural extension of myself.

Yesterday I had to go to the hospital for severe pelvic pain and the nurse said something that made me smile. Looking at Ryan she asked, "Who is this? Is this your person?" I smiled and affirmed that, yes he is my person. (By the way, I am fine. Gonna follow up with my regular doc on it).
Incubus, Dig
From the album A Crow Left of the Murder

We all have a weakness
But some of ours are easy to identify.
Look me in the eye
And ask for forgiveness;
We'll make a pact to never speak that word again
Yes you are my friend.

We all have something that digs at us,
At least we dig each other
So when weakness turns my ego up
I know you'll count on the me from yesterday

If I turn into another
Dig me up from under what is covering
The better part of me
Sing this song
Remind me that we'll always have each other
When everything else is gone.

We all have a sickness
That cleverly attaches and multiplies
No matter how we try.

We all have someone that digs at us,
At least we dig each other
So when sickness turns my ego up
I know you'll act as a clever medicine.

If I turn into another
Dig me up from under what is covering
The better part of me.
Sing this song!
Remind me that we'll always have each other
When everything else is gone.
Oh each other....
When everything
Else is gone.

Influenster #TLCVoxBox Review!

Influenster is a program that sends out new products from time to time for consumers to try out and review. They also have a great review section where members share their experiences with products they regularly use.

I received my very first Vox Box, the #TLCVoxBox from Influenster yesterday. Here are my thoughts on the products sent.

Neosporin® Neo To Go!

This will make a great addition to my travel first aid kit. With four kids and hiking season coming up I am SURE I will need this. This is one of those things that you don't realize you need it until you don't have it!

Breyers® Gelato Indulgences™

This is not your typical ice cream. It is definitely indulgent, that's for sure. I chose the Triple Chocolate flavor and it is wonderful! It's loaded with chocolate curls and totally satisfies my chocolate craving.

Ivory Bar Soap

I love how pure and simple this soap is. (The old-style packaging is also really cute!)

AVON Anew Reversalist Express Wrinkle Smoother

I am pleased to say that I don't have much of a need for this. Yet. But, it does help smooth the fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes and on my forehead! Its nice to find a product that actually does what it claims to do.

Puffs To Go

I love Puffs Plus Lotion. This little travel pack will live in my purse. I am always needing tissues for one reason or another. And Puffs Plus Lotion are super soft and strong.

Shell Fuel Rewards Network Card

This nifty little card allows you to link all of your grocery cards to your Shell Fuel Rewards Network to earn discounts on gas when you shop! With having two bigger vehicles, this will definitely come in handy with all the gas we use.

Since this is my first Vox Box I don't have anything to compare it to, but I am overall very pleased with this first box. This was a box designed just for moms and their lives. The next box I have qualified for is geared toward weddings! So excited for it. Thank you Influenster!

Love Your Enemies (Wisdom Wednesday 6/11)

Matthew 5:44 (King James Version)
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;"

It took me a long time to understand this and I still have to actively decide to love my enemies. Parts of me do not want to do this. After all, they are enemies for a reason, right? It does no good to harbor hatred or any negative feelings towards someone. It eats away at you and does nothing to help the situation. You don't have to be friends with them to accomplish these things. Just release any negative, hurtful feelings and instead, pray for that person to have wisdom and strength.

I am Agnostic so it feel strange to suggest praying. Many of my friends are not Christian, many are. Praying to me now is more of a meditation and what can it hurt? If there is an omnipotent being watching us all then why not pray for some wisdom?

Spending time dwelling on hate makes a person miserable. Don't let your enemies make you miserable. Release that hold they have on you and show a little compassion and understanding.

Layered Dip! (Treat Yourself Tuesday 6/10)

I love Summer food! Whether its grilling, a fresh salad or a heap of berries, I love it all. The other day I was trying to think up ways to use some chicken breast I had without heating up the kitchen in the evening. I decided to slow cook it in the morning when it was not so hot and then shredded it for a layer in an 8-layer dip! It was so good. My whole family loved it. My pickiest kid even had seconds.

  • 1 whole boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • hot sauce for desired spiciness
  • 1 lime

  • 16 ounce can of refried beans
  • 12 ounce container of guacamole
  • 1 cup salsa
  • shredded chicken
  • 2 tomatoes (diced)
  • 1/2 onion (diced)
  • 12 ounce container sour cream
  • 1 - 2 cups shredded cheese (colby/jack or whatever you prefer)
  • 1/2 cup diced green onions
  • Cilantro (optional)

Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.

Mix together dry spices in small bowl, then coat chicken with spice mixture. Grease baking dish with a small amount of olive oil. Bake chicken breast approximately 1 - 1 1/2 hours or until cooked throughout. Cool and then shred meat. (I use two forks to accomplish this). Season shredded meat with desired amount of hot sauce and lime juice. Keep tasting and adding until you like it! Set aside.

In a 9x13 dish, layer ingredients as listed: refried beans, guacamole, salsa, shredded chicken, tomato/onion mixed together, sour cream, 1-2 cups cheese, and green onions. You can also add some cilantro at the end if you like it. When adding thicker ingredients like guacamole and sour cream, its best to put it on in dollops spaced about 1-2 inches apart and then spread down with a silicone spatula.

Serve with chips and a margarita! (Margarita is optional, of course.) ;)

May Stitch Fix Review

I liked Stitch Fix so much in March that I am now getting monthly fixes! I signed up too late for April, so my second fix was for May. I'm not as pleased as I was in March, but that's probably due to me changing up my style profile with them. I am going to go back in and redo it again to see what other things my stylist picks for me! Most of the fun is the surprise of opening the box and discovering new items.

This month I got three shirts, a dress and a messenger bag.

Item #1 Street Level, Kerry Mini Striped Canvas Messenger Bag ($52, keeping)

Its cute, has enough pockets for my things and I love the stripes!

Item #2 Pomelo, Rowson Striped Shift Dress ($68, not keeping).

The colors of this dress are very me, but the shape and fit unfortunately are not. If it was a tighter fit I definitely would have kept this!

Item #3 - 41 Hawthorn, Selfridge Cowl Neck Long Sleeve Top ($48, not keeping)
Again, the color is spot on, but the fit is not. I was not a fan of the sheerness of the material. I have to say though, it was super comfortable. (The color should be more of a coral, my lighting was not great. I apologize).

Item #4 - 41 Hawthorn, Bell Chevron Textured Tie-Neck Blouse ($68, not keeping)
This is a new color for me. I was excited for this, but I do not like sleeveless at all. Plus, being a stay-at-home mom I don't get many opportunities to wear something like this.

Item #5 - Pomelo, Downing Striped Knit Shirt ($44, not keeping)
I thought I was going to keep this until I put it on. It was way too boxy for me. Love the colors and stripes, but again, fit was an issue.

This month the total cost of my fix would have been $195.00 with the $20 styling fee deducted and the 25% "buy all" discount. Not bad for what was sent (if I had liked and needed it all). I still think Stitch Fix is a great service. No shipping and the $20 styling fee goes towards anything you purchase that month. It is fun and exciting to get a new fix every month delivered straight to your door. I can hardly wait for my next one!

Summertime! (Music Monday 6/9)

It's here. Summertime!

I grew up in the 80's & 90's so of course, this is one of my favorite songs of all time. Definitely one of the best 'feel good' songs out there in my opinion. So, just sit back and unwind...

Drums Please!

Summer, summer, summertime
Time to sit back and unwind

Here it is the groove slightly transformed
Just a bit of a break from the norm
Just a little somethin' to break the monotony
Of all that hardcore dance that has gotten to be
A little bit out of control it's cool to dance
But what about the groove that soothes that moves romance
Give me a soft subtle mix
And if ain't broke then don't try to fix it
And think of the summers of the past
Adjust the base and let the alpine blast
Pop in my CD and let me run a rhyme
And put your car on cruise and lay back cause this is summertime

Summer, summer, summertime
Time to sit back and unwind

School is out and it's a sort of a buzz
A back then I didn't really know what it was
But now I see what have of this
The way that people respond to summer madness
The weather is hot and girls are dressing less
And checking out the fellas to tell 'em who's best
Riding around in your jeep or your benzos
Or in your Nissan sitting on lorenzos
Back in Philly we be out in the park
A place called the plateau is where everybody goes
Guys out hunting and girls doing likewise
Honking at the honey in front of you with the light eyes
She turn around to see what you beeping at
It's like the summer's a natural aphrodisiac
And with a pen and pad I compose this rhyme
To hit you and get you equipped for the summer time

Summer, summer, summertime
Time to sit back and unwind

It's late in the day and I ain't been on the court yet
Hustle to the mall to get me a short set
Yeah I got on sneaks but I need a new pair
Cause basketball courts in the summer got girls there
The temperature's about 88
Hop in the water plug just for old times sake
Break to ya crib change your clothes once more
Cause you're invited to a barbeque that's starting at 4
Sitting with your friends cause y'all remincise
About the days growing up and the first person you kiss
And as I think back makes me wonder how
The smell from a grill could spark up nostalgia
All the kids playing out front
Little boys messin round with the girls playing double-dutch
While the DJ's spinning a tune as the old folks dance at your family reunion
Then six o'clock rolls around
You just finished wiping your car down
It's time to cruise so you head to the summertime hangout
It looks like a car show
Everybody come lookin real fine
Fresh from the barber shop or fly from the beauty salon
Every moment frontin and maxin
Chillin in the car they spent all day waxin
Leanin to the side but you can't speed through
Two miles an hour so everybody sees you
There's an air of love and of happiness
And this is the Fresh Prince's new defintion of summer madness

Why are women so nasty to each other?

Why do women have to get so nasty to each other? I do not understand it. I've read articles and scientific studies regarding the instinctual reasons but I still fail to understand why some women are unable to overcome that instinct. Sure, we bring each other down in an attempt to be the most attractive woman and win a mate. Knowing this, can we all grow and mature a little, please? Pretty please?

Over the years my friends have almost always been male. I have never enjoyed the back and forth 'frenemy' thing. If you are my friend, you are my friend. I shouldn't have to worry about what I say to you or if you are going to eventually stab me in the back. For a long time I surrounded myself with online friends and gamers. Recently, I have been much more social and it is a real shock.

There has been bickering over stupid issues and most recently, real threats to "ruin" people. Nothing has happened that warrants that kind of threat. If you are upset and unable to work it out, then go to a therapist or a pastor at your local church. Turning around and threatening people you once called friends is so childish. Move on and live your own life.

So, I sit here, puzzled and annoyed at this whole situation. I ponder whether the reward of helping others is worth dealing with Junior High behavior. And most of all I wonder, Why are these women being so nasty to each other?!
