Looking Back and Reminiscing...

Put A Little Umbrella In Your Drink: Enter to Win a Glossybox!

Another giveaway I've entered! Check it out!

Put A Little Umbrella In Your Drink: Enter to Win a Glossybox!: Did you see the  Glossybox review  that I posted last week? I sampled the January Glossybox and I am hooked! Now I have your chance to ...

I love spicy food. Especially hot wings. I fell in love with Foster Farms Buffalo Chicken Strips but always hated how big they were. Now Foster Farms has come out with Buffalo Breast Bites! These things are amazing! The breading still gets a little mushy in places but that's really the only negative. Pop these bad boys in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes and you have an awesome, sweat-inducing snack. I always dip them in ranch to cool off the heat a little. Nom nom nom.

My DIY Boudoir Photoshoot

So it was just Valentine's Day recently and I wanted to surprise my honey with some sexy pictures of myself. I did some browsing online for photographers/studios. What I found is that these photoshoots are EXPENSIVE. The studio and photographers fee is around $300 and then you have to pay for each shot and just a digital copy can be $80! These were inexpensive places, too. If I wanted to do top of the line it would have run me upwards of $2,ooo. Totally out of my price range. I had maybe $200 total to spend on hair, makeup and photography.

Being as cheap as I am I started looking into doing this myself. Here is what I came up with: First I found a hotel with decor that I liked. I wanted a modern look to the photos so I went with the Hyatt House in Redmond

Reviews were good as far as the interior went so I booked it for Valentine's night at $129/night. Very reasonable. Here is my review on Yelp.

Next I had to get some new lingerie. I decided on a nice little Lace Garter Slip from Victoria's Secret. Sure, it was a little pricey, but you can't skimp when it comes to lingerie, at least I think so.

I didn't do much with my hair and I did a simple smoky eye with a natural lip for makeup. Here's what I used:

Again, doing this on a budget so I just used a lot of what I already had. Covergirl, Maybelline, Neutrogena, Bath & Body Works, Revlon and the brushes were Real Techniques and one kabuki brush from Icing that I used for my blush and bronzer.

The camera I used was an older Kodak EasyShare C433. Definitely not a great camera by any means, but it served its purpose. I've had this camera for years and it was originally given to me by a friend who no longer needed it! I would recommend either borrowing a camera from a friend or buying a real digital camera. Phone cameras just don't do the same quality from what I have observed.

To cut down on cost even further, I used free photo editing software to process and edit the pics. The programs I used were Picasa and PhotoScape. I added some fancy effects and cropped stuff down. We took around 150 raw pictures and ended up with 20 nice pictures. Obviously, most of them I am not going to share, but I will share one of them to give an idea of the final effect! So voila, a boudoir photoshoot done on a budget!

Life has a way of bringing you down once in a while. I think it helps the highs seem that much higher. I just hate the down times...

Valentine's Date

So this entry is just about what I wore on Friday (Valentine's Day) when Ryan and I went out for dinner.

Dress was the Easy Ponte Midi Dress from Forever 21 ($15.80). Black stockings with black Mary Jane pumps ($29.99 a couple years ago). I kept my accessories super simple with just a couple of silver rings I already had and some inexpensive silvery earrings from Icing ($9.50).

Makeup was super simple. I kept the eyes natural with browns/beiges and went with a natural lip. I used my new Real Techniques brushes and they are just wonderful. I don't know how I survived with out real brushes for all these years!

So that's how I get done up as a mom of four on a budget!

In trying to find a theme

I don't want this to be a journal. I want to share what I find interesting on a day to day basis or maybe weekly. I get pretty busy and let's face it, anyone who really knows me knows I am LAZY. I said it. I'm really freaking lazy. I try to hold myself more accountable these days since being 35 and having a filthy house and children is just sad. Some chronic pain prevents me from being as active as I would like, but I'm working on that.

Some music that I'm enjoying right now is Lorde and Daft Punk. Daft Punk reminds me so much of my step-father. He liked electronic music, it was his favorite. Giorgio by Moroder is a song I could see him putting on for a dance party. He liked to have dance parties and be silly.

Another track I am liking and then heard in a bump for the show 'Vikings' on the History Channel, is Lorde's
Glory and Gore from her album 'Pure Heroine'. I got the full album after liking Royals so much and there are a number of good tracks on there.

Ryan and I get to go out on Friday! Its a regular thing we do every Valentine's. We started dating in January, so Valentine's is kind of like an anniversary for us. We get to remember that very first one we had and how magical it was. Each year seems to get better and better as we become more a part of each other's lives. Its been stressful, that's for sure, but at least I know we are strong together and I have no doubts at all about us. SO, here is my date night look for tomorrow.  Forever 21 has great, inexpensive dresses and I'm loving the look of the Sally Hansen 'Diamonds' shade nail polish. I got their combination base/top coat and so far have had great results. No chipping at all in 3 days of mommy activity which is pretty good in my book.

I hope everyone has a loving and safe Valentine's day. Hug your baby, whoever that may be, and feel the love!
